Yoncé

JOURNAL TOPIC:

Given what you've learned about mythology, and how it reflects the culture/values of its times, nominate an epic story from our times that will be remembered as an emblem of this culture in two thousand years. Explain your choice.

Will we be remembered for our amazing structures? Our advanced technology that allowed us to have all of humankind's knowledge accessible a click away? I believe we will be remembered for our entertainment and our expectations. A story from our times that will go down in legend, is that of Beyoncé. She is I know overrated, but some people are die hard members of the "Bey-Hive". Queen Bey rose to prominence as one of the members of the all powerful girl group Destiny's Child. Beyoncé was the leader of the three, only using the group as a catapult for a solo career. At the turn of the millennium, Beyoncé released her solo album, establishing herself as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. She had the biggest influence as bringing a mix of pop and R&B back to the mainstream radio and establishing it as a medium favorite for all of the contemporary pop music industry. She was also included in Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2013 and 2014.
In addition, she has been listed as an inspiration for many other mainstream artists as well as influencing their music. Stage-wise she is one of the best live performers of the era, if not the best. Her 4 octave voice provides her with an amazing range of which she makes good use of. American society values perfection, and Beyoncé personifies that. Even if not everyone agrees she's an amazing artist, you can not deny she possesses talent and is a dedicated performer. Being a symbol for America in the music industry has also allowed her to exert her influence on the rest of the world. A 17 time Grammy winner, Beyoncé has also founded various foundations from female empowerment campaigns to hurricane relief foundations. Not to mention that the music world went crazy when she dropped her 2013 self-titled album out of the blue. Even with zero promotion, the album managed to sell sold 828,773 copies worldwide in three days, becoming the fastest-selling album in iTunes history. The music industry is an immense part of our culture, and Beyonce is just the right artist to represent not only the business, but our culture as well.

  1. I agree that Beyonce is a powerful women for our world. I don't really agree that she would be remembered for a super long time by everyone. I do think she will be remembered for her music. She is one of the most influential musician and human being to many people i could say.

    1. I think that maybe she would be remembered because of how so many people try to make her so much bigger than she really is. If it were just for actions I do not think she would be remembered for two millennium, but because of her presence in music, social media, and over exaggeration everywhere (her birthday being a "national holiday") I think she might just have a chance.

    1. Its not that I'm passionate about her, in fact most of her music isn't to my taste. However, I can not say she does not have immense talent and dedication to her work, as well as influencing others.

  5. Beyonce is definitely part of our culture and does have an immense influential impact on us Americans. However, she didn't come to my mind at all when we writing this journal, but of course you, who knows every song and artist there is, would know so much about her and see her as an emblem of our culture.

  7. You have a great argument and Beyoncé is a great artist. But think about it, Elvis used to be huge but hardly anyone talks about him anymore. So if Beyoncé was to be remembered in the future, she would have to do a lot more.

    1. I agree with you. Elvis being the father of rock n roll is so much more important. However, even though I have immense respect and admiration for him I feel like music was his only influence. Beyonce continues to influence others through not only her music, but also through her organizations, feminist campaigns, etc.

  8. Wow, thank you for saying that I will be remembered. I just don't really know if I deserve this talent. I mean, I know God gave it to me, but I just feel like having all this talent is unfair. Jk great post I love the points you made.

    1. Thank you. And I do not think it is morally fair that you possess so much talent. But remember, thank god for this moment. Always love Houston. Thank your parents, who you love and the judges for picking you.

  9. Beyonce is liiife. In all seriousness its not like I worship her. I honestly don't like the majority of her music. Ariana Grande, bae, has not had a significant career or made an impact on society or american culture yet. Maybe in a decade, but for now I don't think she is of much significance. BUT HER MUSIC IS AMAZING.

  11. Wow, this journal is very well put together and really captures on the idea of your believe that she is part of our culture. I do however agree that she is a very influential person for people all over the world, knowing that her music takes part in lives of many people. They can relate to the music that she has produced and that's something that makes her amazing. I could see on how you justify that she is apart of our culture.

    1. Thank you (: I think that most people in our culture at least know who she is or have heard one or two of her songs, even if they didn't like them. She is a perfectionist and the themes she sings about are very wide and you can relate to most.
